Katherine graduated from Columbia in 2013 where she received her B.A. in Psychology with a special concentration in Linguistics. There she combined her love of language with attention to philosophic inquiry and data-driven research. In addition to her studies, Katherine dedicated much of her time to teaching. She worked as a T.A. in the Psychology Department and volunteered with Brainiacs, a program that brought extracurricular science courses to public schools. Katherine is currently completing an M.A. in Linguistics at The Graduate Center at CUNY where she works on computational models of language acquisition. She is also a adjunct lecturer in Computer Science at Hunter College.Tutoring for now nearly a decade, Katherine is passionate about empowering her students to learn through hands-on challenges. After graduating from Skidmore with honors, I began to work on my MA at The New School for Social Research, where I am focusing on Ancient, Modern, and Contemporary political, legal, and moral philosophy. While at graduate school I have begun to tutor a number of students, many of whom I have now been working with for over a year. My greatest assets as a tutor lie in my mastery of the english language, skills in logic and conceptual organization, and versatile ability to explain to students complex ideas with which they find themselves frustrated and struggling. My goal is to restore students to a thoroughly self-sufficient status in their academic endeavors, an aim which pursue by focusing on the identification of students' advantages and disadvantages, and attempting to develop a unique plan for each student as to how we might capitalize on their strengths so as to neutralize their difficulties. During my tenure, I increased my school's proficiency rate on the NJ ASK, New Jersey's end-of-year standardized assessment, by over 33 percent. In 2011, I was asked to lead the implementation of our new Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) program by Project Lead the Way, which is one of the leading providers of STEM education curricular programs in the country. In addition to teaching, I served as a member of the Connections to Algebraic Thinking Focus Group for my district. Our group was tasked with adjusting the middle school curriculum to better prepare students for the study of Algebra. I also completed the Emerging Leaders Program offered by the national nonprofit organization, New Leaders. The program helped strengthen my leadership and coaching skills and focused heavily on using data to drive instruction. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, rock climbing, longboarding, and skiing.

I have a vested interest in the performing arts, love going to the gym, and hanging out with my fraternity brothers.
