I received my Bachelor of Arts in History from Kenyon College, and then explored a lot of different fields before settling on corporate video sales, where I got to look at history every day by licensing stock footage to a range of different corporate, commercial and educational clients. I achieved as much as I could in that field and began to think about what my next step would be. In the corporate world, my job always involved teaching, whether it was staff or clients. A diagnosis of ADHD for our son convinced me that teaching was where I was meant to be so that I could help him. I was accepted into an accelerated teaching program in New York City, earning my Masters in Special Education at CUNY-Hunter College, and taught in high schools in distressed areas where I was able to lessen the opportunity gap for underprivileged students and open up a world of learning to them. There is nothing in the world like seeing the "light bulb" go off in a student's mind when they grasp a concept. That is what keeps me going. I am most passionate about history, government and economics, because what happened two years ago or two hundred years ago is still relevant and is playing out in the world today. A day without art or music is like a day without air, and whenever I can weave those into a lesson I do. I can also tutor Art History, Racial and Social Justice, Algebra 1 and Geometry. When I am not working, I hang out with my family, ride really long distances on my bike (gran fondos), watch the Pittsburgh Steelers or Pittsburgh Penguins, and try to keep my Wordle and Spelling Bee habit under control.

I'm originally from Arkansas but have been a Memphian for over 5 years. I got into tutoring because any of my success in the classroom is due to hard work. My ACT scores were a product of hours of study, and my grades were something that took consistent systems and discipline. Some subjects come naturally to me, and I've always been into Politics & Government. My greatest assets are technical and upper level writing, Political Science, Government, English and even some public speaking for any students in Oral Comm classes. My papers in Comparative Politics have been acknowledged for their quality by top professors in their field. My specialization in undergraduate studies was Middle Eastern Political Systems and Democratization. I strive to put my students first and develop them as critical thinkers and life long learners. I really believe that my teaching can sharpen your skills and raise your scores.

It is such a shame that others don't find enjoyment in so many things, because they're written off as "too difficult", when in reality, they're not so bad. The reason I became a tutor is to help those people who think they'll be bad at things, just because they think it will be hard.I really want to help people learn and understand what is going on in their classes and lessons, so that they can experience what something better. These subjects can be great if you have someone willing to sit down, one-on-one, and really work with you to find that block or show you how to study. Sometimes, it's something as simple as having it explained in a simpler way. Simply learning how to wade through a professors jargon can do wonders for a student. In the end, the goal of my tutoring is to provide outstanding service, but most importantly, I want students to leave my lessons feeling excited and encouraged to learn more, willing to push themselves harder. I want people to learn how they can do better just by believing in themselves a little bit more.

I love to teach writing because I have been very successful at getting good results with my students. I have helped them improve their writing skills in ways that they never thought possible. I am an empathetic and active listener who helped them turn their thoughts and ideas into exceptional writing material. I used a step by step method by starting with writing a good topic sentence and a solid paragraph and then leading into the parts of an essay. I also had them write for different purposes like explaining how to do something or writing a descriptive essay. I found teaching writing to be a most fulfilling task and one that left me inspired by my students achievements as much as they felt inspired by my enthusiasm and positive and encouraging approach. I also have a Ph.Din American and European literature and can tutor in those subjects as well.

I am a graduate of The University of Memphis. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in literature and World Languages with a concentration in French. I graduated summa cum laude with university honors as the student marshal for The College of Arts and Sciences. I am also a member of the national honor society, Phi Kappa Phi. I am now working towards my Master of Arts in English Literature and a graduate certificate in Women's and Gender Studies with plans to complete a graduate certificate in Autism Studies as well. I believe everyone deserves access to a meaningful education and I know that not everyone thrives with the same teaching methods or paces. This is why it is so important for educators to understand their students and work with them accordingly. I enjoy reading as a pastime and one of the reasons I advocate for reading all throughout life is that it cultivates empathy, a character trait that is absolutely invaluable in this world. I would love to help you with homework!

I am a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas where I received my Bachelor of Science in a double major of Psychology and Addiction Studies. I then received my Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am now pursuing a doctorate in Counseling Psychology due to my passion for psychology and working with people. Throughout my coursework, I have tutored many students in the area of psychology. Additionally, I took an interest in English, grammar, and writing. To hone these skills, I have taken extra course work and an active role in editing and reviewing manuscripts and papers for academic journals and fellow colleagues. I have experience working with young children and I spent several years teaching children with Autism concepts they learn in school as well as daily functioning skills. I find it extremely rewarding to see children and teenagers begin to master new skills and dive into new unexplored topics. I tutor in the areas of psychology, English, grammar, and writing. Outside of academia, I love reading, being in nature, and playing with my dog, Leslie.

I am a recent graduate of Tulane University. I received a B.A. in English (with a concentration in creative writing) as well as a B.A. in political science. I have extensive experience working as a tutor for a wide range of ages. I currently tutor international students ages 4-16 in English. For two years, I taught elementary school students who struggled with literacy in developing their reading abilities. I have participated in countless writing workshops and aided my peers in editing/proofreading sessions throughout my academic career. I understand how difficult English can be for students and that's why I bring both positivity and patience to my lessons. My goal is to help those I tutor grow as readers and writers!
