About Me

I am a tutor of mathematics and science with over ten years of experience helping students. In addition to tutoring I have run tutorials and graded assignments and tests at York, where I earned an MA in mathematics (analytic number theory) and where I am currently pursuing a mathematics PhD (in set theory). I always hope to help students discover and enjoy more mathematics every time we work together. Mathematics, like any other discipline, is best absorbed through practice and work; a student benefits the most from figuring things out themselves as much as possible. To this effect, I aim to guide students through material as much as possible, asking questions and letting them work to the best of their ability and inserting new information as needed when they are working. I will give new information or essentially a lesson where necessary, but I find that students do best when they are given latitude to build knowledge with questions and thinking. Of course, this works best in pure mathematics, but the idea can apply to certain scientific areas as well. I will always work to get a sense of how a student best learns, what they want and where they're at with material to give them comfortable and useful help toward their goals.
