I am a graduate of The University of Central Florida (UCF). I received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology & Microbiology as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a focus on Neuroscience. My tutoring experience started in college as a teaching assistant, both in English and Spanish for the Biology Department. As a teaching assistant, I tutored students one-on-one, cultivated student interaction via study groups, encouraged critical thinking and trained students on the improvement of study skills. Later, I was awarded the NSF Graduate Teaching Fellowship in K-12 Education where I taught science learning to middle school students, in the community, by developing laboratory experiments that would encourage critical thinking via the inquiry method. After graduation, as a Scientific Research Assistant, my research focused on Neuroscience, specifically the central & peripheral nervous system. As a researcher, I published my research in peer reviewed journals and presented at many scientific conferences in order to effectively communicate my research findings to the world.
After five years in research, I felt the growing need to give back in a more direct way to my community. I wanted to use all of my education and research skills to give students real-world experience in science.
Today, I am a certified Professional Educator in Biology, Chemistry as well as a Gifted Endorsed Instructor, grades 6-12, with many years of experience. I believe all students have their own unique motivations and goals which require different tutoring approaches that address each student's individual needs. I am grateful to have the opportunity to be a guide who can help students learn, structure new knowledge and connect key academic concepts to their daily lives. I am excited to be working with students via Varsity Tutors and look forward to working with you!
