I have worked with multiple different age groups in countless subjects. I promise to employ multiple different strategies in my tutoring session, because no one way is the correct way. Patience, and determination, are my strongest attributes. I want to make sure that every session is productive, and the student walks away with new knowledge, and skills.

I am currently attending The University of North Texas majoring in Interdisiciplinary Studies EC-6th Generalist/ESL certification. That long title is just a fancy way to say I will be teaching elementary age children. I am in my fourth year, and will hopefully be starting student teaching Fall of 2016. I have worked with children in a variety of settings. Most recently I worked for the City of Mesquite in an after school program. I often assisted my students with their homework, and would set aside 30 minutes to an hour for us to work together. I have also volunteered for a tutoring center in Dallas. I have also been tasked with coming up with lesson plans, and teaching them to students, for my coursework at UNT.

I have can offer tutoring in a variety of subjects. Most notable would be English, and Reading. I am also skilled in tutoring elementary age Math. When I'm not studying at UNT I am usually reading a new book, playing a video game, or catching a new movie that is out. I've also been known to go camping from time to time.

Overall, I just want to make sure that every session is productive, and that you walk away feeling like you were helped. I promise to be patient if you promise to work hard.

Q & A

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would first see what they think are their problem areas. (e.g. time management, organization, etc.).

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By providing them with the tools they need to succeed when I'm not around. This could be by giving them the appropriate study skills, problem-solving skills, etc. Also, by helping them become more confident in their own abilities.
