About Me

I became a tutor because I love to teach. I first started tutoring as a student at Emory University, where I worked with fellow students who were struggling with writing in the Emory Student Writing Center. I realized that I had a knack for helping students understand grammar and composition and soon developed a reputation for my ability to help my peers understand why they were struggling and how they could improve. After graduation, I continued to work at Emory as an Arts at Emory associate, a highly competitive two-year fellowship that gave me the chance to co-teach a writing-intensive course in Theater History. I then joined the Peace Corps and traveled to Chad, where I worked as a full-time teacher for students in the equivalents of 8th-12th grade. Upon returning to the United States, I became a full-time tutor with a major tutoring company in Atlanta, where I tutored middle and high school students in all subjects as well as standardized test preparation. I believe that students enjoy learning from teachers who enjoy learning themselves. As an enthusiastic learner and engaged listener, I am able to connect empathetically with my students while motivating them to achieve their very best. While not all schoolwork is fun and games, I believe that my ability to help students understand the bigger picture and connect the subjects they are learning with their goals and dreams helps them to see the value of their accomplishments. I have benefitted from many great teachers over my life, and it is my sincere wish to help other students find the same joy in learning that those teachers instilled in me.
