I am a graduate from Central Michigan University's Honors Program where I received my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a minor in Mathematics. Since graduating, I have earned my Masters in Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology from the University of Virginia where I'm continuing on to earn my PhD in the same field. Once I earn my degree, I aspire to be a lecture professor for undergraduates with a focus on biochemistry and immunology. These subjects are exciting, but I feel students lose interest due to the mathematics involved. My extensive experience with tutoring and being a teaching assistant has inspired me to make mathematics and biological sciences more accessible and inspiring. I started tutoring mathematics (algebra through calculus) in high school and continued tutoring during my undergraduate degree in mathematics, analytical chemistry, chemistry, genetics, and molecular biology. I really enjoy working with college students because they are independent and responsible for putting in the time and effort to be successful.My career goal is to eventually work full time in higher education after my children are in school.

I am a current undergraduate student in Columbia College. I have not declared a major, but am most interested in studying environmental science, and Russian. Throughout high school I volunteered with various organizations to help teach students everything from French to Taekwondo. I am most interested in Russian and Math, but tutor a wider range of subjects. I genuinely love learning, and I try to help others understand why certain subjects appeal to me, with the hope that they find their own reasons to be interested in the subjects. In my free time I enjoy going to museums, running, and reading.

Prior to returning to grad school, I taught middle school and high school English in Columbia, South Carolina for six years and middle school English in New Jersey for one year. I have also taught ISEE/SSAT prep. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I served my school as both the yearbook sponsor and as the lead mock trial coach for my competitive middle school team. I enjoy working with students on polishing their writing so it is publication ready!

In 2012 I received my B.S. in Environmental Science at the University of Toledo. From there, I went north to the University of Michigan to get an M.S. in Conservation Ecology. Currently, I'm a PhD student at Bowling Green State University where I study and teach biology. Throughout my studies, I've gained a lot of experience in teaching, tutoring, and learning. I've worked with students that have unique learning styles, and that come from a diversity of backgrounds. In addition, as a Chinese native speaker, I'm also tutoring Chinese speaking and writing. Outside of academia, I enjoy playing music and sports.
