For my undergraduate education, I attended the University of Pittsburgh where I received my B.S. in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry and Spanish. Initially wanting to pursue a career in medicine, I enrolled in Columbia University's Institute of Human Nutrition where I received my M.S. in Human Nutrition. Through this program, I realized that I wanted to focus my career on improving health at the population level and thus am currently enrolled in Drexel University's School of Public Health where I will receive my M.P.H. in 2016. My tutoring experience began in high school where I tutored other high school students in math and the basic sciences. As an undergraduate, I also spent two and a half years as a teaching assistant for the Introduction to Chemistry courses during which I acquired extensive teaching techniques and skills. I tutor math, a broad range of science courses, and Spanish and love to tutor all of these subjects equally. Specifically, I enjoy tutoring students in Algebra because I believe that having strong skills in Algebra is essential to academic success in numerous other courses outside of mathematics. Furthermore, my extensive experience tutoring Chemistry students has provided me with excellent tools to guide students through this course. Finally, I have spent significant time in Costa Rica and Honduras, where I worked in medical clinics and often served as a translator for physicians. I also lived in Madrid, Spain for a month where I attended a Language Immersion Study Abroad program. Through these experiences, I have become extremely proficient and conversational in Spanish and love helping students learn this invaluable language. I am a firm believer that all students learn differently and identifying how each student best learns is essential to his/her academic success. Therefore, as a tutor, I aim to specifically tailor my teaching style to each student in order to help them maximize their potential. Outside of academics, I enjoy exercising, playing basketball, cooking, and attending concerts and other live performances in the Philadelphia area.

I graduated in 1985 with a BS in Design Engineering Technology (basically a CAD centric ME). I have worked most of my career with engineering tools like CAD, PDM and PLM. I have raised 4 children and helped them all with their math and science homework. I also lived for a couple years in Central America where I became fluent in Spanish. To augment what I learned while living there, I also took 3rd Year Grammar and Intro to Spanish Literature. So I also helped my kids with their Spanish homework. The great thing about knowing Spanish is that you can use it almost every day.

I graduated with a 4.0 from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, with a Bachelor's of Arts in English. While pursuing my degree, I logged over 600 hours in the public school classroom working mostly with middle school and high school students, although I did have some experience working with elementary school students. I have taught in whole class, small group, and individual settings, and I anticipate receiving my Texas teacher certification by the end of January 2014. I believe all students can learn and achieve through practice and hard work, regardless of the subject area and individual strengths and weaknesses. I love reading for recreation, but I am extremely passionate about writing; I believe that this passion transfers well to my students. I am comfortable tutoring any English related subject, beyond Reading Comprehension and Writing. My other hobbies include listening to music and shopping both of which attracted me to the Austin area. I believe that learning lasts a lifetime, and as a part of my journey to become a lifelong learner, I am currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

I graduated from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University with a B.S. in physics and a B.S. in mathematics. I was recently accepted into the graduate program at UC Davis, where I will study and perform research for several years to earn a doctorate in physics. From there, I hope to proceed to a faculty position at a university, where I can continue to do research and both teach and inspire future students. When I am not studying or performing research, I enjoy playing video games, card games, or role-playing games with my friends. I also am an amateur engineer, participating in the online community of laser enthusiasts. Together, we construct circuitry, design housings, and align lenses to create not laser pens for pets, but high-powered, scientific lab lasers. While studying at ASU, I regularly worked with fellow students on mathematics and physics problems that they found challenging. In high school, I tutored a middle school student weekly in organizational and homework skills, mathematics, and science. Because of my specialty in math and physics, I am most comfortable tutoring those two subjects, ranging from Freshman physics through quantum theory and from algebra through more advanced mathematics subjects such as real analysis. Further, I enjoy it! Both mathematics and physics are sciences of problem-solving and perseverance, but once a solution is found, the work is greatly rewarding. In past experiences teaching and tutoring, I have found that I tend to lecture and use examples to ensure my classmates or students are not only capable of getting the right answer, but understanding why the answer they obtain is the correct one. I find that lecturing is useful to provide explanations for concepts that the student would otherwise have to simply memorize (and not understand), and the working of examples is useful to reinforce the methods and concepts used when solving particular problems. Regardless of how I am working with a student, however, I tend to always introduce a sort of humor and quirkiness that is necessary to set the light, easy-going mood that defines my teaching style.

I am currently a physics student at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Throughout my high school and college career, I have been tutoring people of all ages a variety of different subjects, but I specialize in math and physics. I am a firm believer that one cannot explain a concept to a 5-year-old, then they do not understand it enough. When I teach my students, I try my best to make sure they can achieve this deep level of understanding in whatever subject they are studying. I have tutored professionally for Mathnasium where I tutored math in all levels ranging from algebra to single variable calculus, and have tutored privately in subjects such as quantum mechanics, and introductory physics. In my free time, I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee, going on hikes, and writing music.

Over the years, the biggest problem I faced like many of my own private clients have, is that sometimes students don't know what the instructor is expecting from them. This can occur in any classroom and at any level. Students may be referring to unknown expectations of a teacher or a professor about a particular quiz, exam, midterm, essay or even the primary goal of the academic year. My job is to guide each student towards identifying and achieving what the instructor is looking for, and ultimately comprehending those difficult demands. I try to bridge the gap between the student and teacher. My primary goal is to lead to clarity - not further any confusion, difficulty, or frustration. Learning a language is hard enough. I simply guide the student by showing him or her new techniques to study and methods to learn about the Spanish language. This is turn gives the student the ability to achieve his or her individual goals. Moreover, the previous tension and confusion felt by the student begins to lessen with each session. As a personal tutor I hope to advance the development of a student's initial knowledge of the Spanish language into a solid foundation.
