An alumnus of the University of Kentucky, I graduated this past May with a degree in Biology and Business Management, minoring in Economics and International Business, and am headed to medical school in the fall. As a student, both in college and in high school, I have always found enjoyment and fulfillment in being able to share knowledge through the process of tutoring.In college, I worked for a volunteer learning center in the biology department, tutoring other college students in introductory biology, genetics, evolution, and biochemistry, among other biology subjects; in high school, I taught classes for the ACT, with credibility based on my own performance in the exam, to raise donations for a nonprofit. While I enjoy tutoring a broad range of subjects, my favorite subjects to tutor are science, math, and standardized testing. In each of these, I relish the intellectual challenge by which problems are addressed and solved.Regardless of the topic and of my own tutoring ability, I believe that the proliferation of content and accomplishment on the internet shows that with time and dedication, anyone can learn anything. I aspire to take the time and dedication to help you accomplish the true learning that education aspires to impart.Outside of the classroom, I enjoy watching sports of all kinds, love skiing, playing basketball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee, reading about all kinds of science and societal topics, and appreciate keeping up with what I one day want to make a career out of: public health.

My sense of humor follows the 80/20 rule: 80% of my jokes work about 20% of the time. When I teach a class, if I haven't made them laugh at least once then I've failed.I know what it's like to suffer as a math student. Math was my hardest subject in high school and even made me cry sometimes. When I got to Calculus, though, everything came together and I came to see the beauty in mathematics. I continued this cycle of suffering followed by joyful understanding when I studied math in college and then grad school, and now that I'm finally out of academia, I can relax and share my experience with others.When I engage in an hour of private tutoring I tend to go over-time by around fifteen minutes if I need to do so to wrap up whatever we were working on. Teaching is a passion, a calling, and a compulsion for me.

I believe that education is the key to leading a successful and meaningful life. My passion for learning has opened countless doors for me in my life, and I hope to create those same opportunities for other students through diligent, compassionate instruction. I have been a tutor since I was in the eighth grade and have helped my younger siblings and cousins with homework ever since I was a child. I come from a single-parent home, but was a very driven student who graduated as valedictorian of one of America's top public high schools in a highly competitive STEM program, with 16 AP classes under my belt. I was also a National Merit Scholar. I feel that education is what has helped me overcome adversity and achieve my dreams, and I want to see others do the same.

I am currently a registered professional engineer (PE) in the state of Kentucky. My teaching experience dates back to 2015 when I began as a swim instructor for the YMCA. However, I first began tutoring academic lessons in 2018 at the University of Louisville. At UofL, I have tutored classes such as Statics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Hydraulics, Economics, and Statistics. From peer tutoring, I developed a tutoring philosophy known as scaffolding, which I use now as much as possible. Scaffolding is a tutoring style that builds from a common understanding that the student has, and it grows to an understanding of a new topic. Outside of academia, I love sports, especially basketball and football, swimming, and video games.

The best years of my formal education was my first and second year of school. There I learned to decode words and spell. This was the foundation of my love for the English language. It is so important to have a foundation to build upon. This is the reason I tutor, to give students a foundation to build upon for a lifetime of learning. Learning should both be engaging and fun. Andy Ray graduated from the Xavier University, Cincinnati cum laude with a B.S. in Chemistry and went on to earn his M.S. in Biochemical, Cellular, and Molecular Pharmacology from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Andy scored in the 91st percentile on the MCAT and achieved similarly impressive results on his USMLE. He currently obtaining his M.D./M.B.A. from the University of Louisville School of Medicine with plans for a career in Anesthesiology.As a future physician entrepreneur, Andy's passion for medical education led him to tutor high school, undergraduate, graduate, and medical students in a variety of sciences across several different online platforms for the past 4 years.

I am a recent graduate of Otterbein University, where I received my bachelors degree in Physics and Mathematics. I am currently in the application process to enroll in graduate school to pursue my PHD in Condensed Matter Physics. My academic focus is in sustainable energy resources and energy storage, with aspirations to do research in the field of nuclear fusion.

I graduated from Hillsdale College, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in both English and Art. After graduating, I spent the next year living in the Republic of Georgia, where I taught conversational English. Upon returning to the States, I spent some time working as an illustrator for a small publishing company in Louisville, KY. As of 2021, I've continued to illustrate, edit, and tutor on a freelance basis. While I tutor in a variety of subjects, my favorite subjects would be literature and writing. I worked in the Writing Center while at Hillsdale College, and found that I love to help students discover their voice and unique writing style. In addition, I love to explore literary themes and bring stories to life for students -- both for students who already love literature, as well as those who may have found it boring in the past.In my spare time, I enjoy writing fiction, and have had several short stories professionally published.

A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I matriculated at Centre College in Danville. There I studied history and played for the school soccer team. I left with many bruises and a degree in history.After a short diversion to serve my country in the Army, I moved to Louisville. I worked for the city and later the water company. I returned to school at the University of Louisville. I worked on a Master's degree in Teaching and certification in learning and behavior disorders.Once certified, I embarked on a career teaching. I have worked at three different high schools, teaching regular and resource classes, as well as coaching soccer. At the moment, I work as a special education teacher inside Our Lady of Peace hospital. There, I work daily to meet the educational needs of students with significant behavioral issues that temporarily prevent attendance at a regular school.I have worked as a tutor at various times throughout my teaching career. For several years, I worked evenings and Saturday mornings at a Sylvan Learning Center. Later, I tutored individual students through an organization called ClubZ!I tutor because it allows me to work one-on-one with a student. As a classroom teacher, I rarely get this opportunity. The opportunity for individual instruction gives me the chance to see real progress in the students I have the privilege to tutor.Outside of teaching, I enjoy coaching (and watching) soccer. I also like to ride my bike along the new trail through the Parklands of Floyds Fork.
