How can a Accounting tutor help you?

Accounting classes may be challenging for many students. If you have always been great at math, then you may have thought that an accounting course would be a breeze for you. While it is important to understand the mathematics concepts used by accountants, understanding the subject also involves learning the generally accepted accounting principles, or GAAP, legal concepts, accounting ethics, and much more. Concepts that may be a struggle to learn include accruals, duality, substance over form, completeness, comparability/consistency, and other challenging topics. For assistance in understanding your accounting course in Omaha, NE, contact Varsity Tutors' educational directors today. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors may help you find an Omaha tutor to try to see that you don't fall further behind in accounting.

A tutor may try to help you overcome any difficulty you are facing in your accounting course. When faced with a large classroom of students, teachers often don't have the time to tailor their lessons to each and every student's individual learning style. They teach to the class and not to each individual student's needs. However, when working one-on-one with a tutor, he or she may first find out how you learn best, then re-teach the concepts you are struggling with in a way that makes the most sense to you. This might lead to many "a-ha" moments when you begin to understand accounting concepts that seemed so confusing to you in class, but then seem so simple when taught to you in a different way by your tutor.

Session Summaries by Accounting Tutors

Omaha, NE Accounting tutoring
The student and I continued to review a managerial accounting assignment that focused on the development of a master budget. She completed the cash budget and attained a better understanding of how a company will borrow to cover cash deficits and repay a loan with interest with excess cash. We also discussed the income statement and balance sheet based upon information from the ten previous tabs. Then, we discussed one of the alternative scenarios under the second problem. I provided her with a template that could be used (which was a variation of the Excel template she received, but more formulas and functions were included). After completing the calculations, I gave her an "assignment" related to four bullet point questions that needed to be addressed in order to compare the base scenario with the first alternative/recommendation.

We worked on the student's setup of his project, which involved pretending to start a company and showing how the entire accounting cycle would look. It was an excellent project, as it really gave him an opportunity to see how the basic accounting principles are applied and what the implications on a company are as the company progresses.

The student and I covered creating an adjusted trial balance and associated entries from a preexisting company scenario. Specifically, we worked on calculating and accruing interest on notes payable, amortizing a premium on bonds payable using the effective interest method, calculating and recording sales executed on unearned revenue, Treasury stock purchases, calculating outstanding shares and valuation of stock splits, direction of carrying value over the life of bonds issued at a premium, and amortizing mortgage payable. She was engaged and attentive during the session. I included a strategy for determining what accounting to perform when the instructions use the word "accrue" and also reviewed its definition.
