Students study how the American government works, compare global systems of government, and analyze the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the three branches of government. Students pursue a deeper understanding of the institutions of American government and the relationship among federal, state, and local governments.

The course traces changes in ethnic composition, the movement for equal rights, and the role of the United States as a world power.
