In AP Seminar, students will investigate real world issues from multiple perspectives, gathering and analyzing information from various sources in order to develop credible and valid evidencebased arguments. AP Seminar will include a group project and presentation, an individual research project and presentation, and a final examination.

In AP Research, students develop the skills and discipline necessary to conduct independent research to produce and defend a scholarly academic thesis. This second course in the AP Capstone experience allows students to explore deeply an academic topic, problem, or issue of individual interest and through this inquiry, students design, plan, and conduct a yearlong mentored, research-based investigation. The course culminates in an academic thesis paper of approximately 5,000 words and a presentation, performance, or exhibition with an oral defense. # RESOURCE

Students who take 3 or more AP, DE, or AICE classes are invited to take the research elective that provides one class period to receive support and time to work on rigorous assignments. This class does not receive any honors points. # COMPUTER SCIENCE

A or B in Algebra 2 Honors or Pre-Calculus or Java Essentials and Teacher Approval This course is designed for college-bound students who are interested in learning to program and understand the fundamental concepts of computer science. The course will introduce the Java language. Major topics will include knowledge of computer systems, variables, expressions, input-output, loops, object-oriented programming, arrays, parameters, searching, sorting, and strings. The ultimate goal of this course is to help prepare students for the Advanced Placement Computer Science A exam. Access to a computer at home is a requirement. Students will have the opportunity to earn industry certification.

AP Computer Science Principles introduces students to the central ideas of computer science, inviting students to develop the computational thinking vital for success across multiple disciplines. The course is unique in its focus on fostering students to be creative and encouraging students to apply creative processes when developing computational artifacts. Students design and implement innovative solutions using an iterative process similar to what artists, writers, computer scientists, and engineers use to bring ideas to life.

Web, Java, or AP Comp Sci and Teacher Approval AP Cybersecurity is a yearlong high school course that offers a broad introduction to the field and aligns closely with a college-level, introductory cybersecurity course. Students learn about common threats and vulnerabilities and how they combine to create risk. Students study how individuals and organizations manage risk and how risk can be mitigated through a defense-in-depth strategy. Students explore specific vulnerabilities, attacks, mitigations, and detection measures across a variety of domains including physical spaces, computer networks, devices, and data and applications. Throughout the course, students consider the impact of cybersecurity on individuals, organizations, societies, and governments. Content and skills taught in the course align with the professional skills outlined in the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education Workforce Framework. Students will have the opportunity to earn industry certification. # ENGLI

Teacher Recommendation and “B “in English Honors 2; strongly recommend 10th grade FAST score of 3 or higher This course involves students in the study and practice of writing and in the study of language. Students learn to apply their knowledge of the techniques of language in both speaking and writing activities. Students will develop critical standards for identifying the components of good writing. All students enrolled in the course are required to take the semester I exam and the AP Language & Composition exam in May.

Teacher Recommendation; “B” in AICE English General Paper or AP English Language This course involves students in the study and practice of analysis in writing and literature. Students learn to use the modes of discourse and to recognize the assumptions underlying various rhetorical strategies. Students acquire an understanding of the resources of the language and of the writer’s craft. They develop critical standards for the appreciation of any literary work and increase their sensitivity to literature as shared experience. Pre-requisites: Algebra 2 H with a B or better and Teacher Approval Recommended Co-requisites: AP Precalc, AP Psychology, AP Biology The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, evaluating, and drawing conclusions from data. Topics include exploratory analysis, planning a study, anticipating pattern, and statistical inference. It is required that students take the Advanced Placement examination in Statistics.
