College Preparatory Course (P). This course meets the University of California's a (history) subject-area requirement. In this course, students will study world history from the late 1700s to the present while examining the following strands: history, geography, economics, culture, hegemony, and ethics. The course thematically explores how power and identity shape national identity, international relations, constitutional heritage, and citizenship. By analyzing primary and secondary sources from diverse perspectives throughout the world, students develop arguments and apply historical reasoning, such as contextualization, causation, and continuity and change over time in order to evaluate instances of oppression and movements towards equity.

Honors Preparatory Course (HP). This course meets the University of California's a (history) subject area requirement. World History Advanced Placement is a two-semester course that is broader and more rigorous than the World History 1,2 Advanced course. This course emphasizes cross-cultural and cross-period global processes and relationships over the traditional chronological approach so that students gain historical perspective on a global array of civilizations, not just Western ones. Students enrolled in this course will be prepared to take the AP World History examination.

History of the Americas IB HL1 is a multi-perspective and demanding critical exploration focusing on both domestic and foreign policies. To allow for depth of study and recognition of variation in causality and consequences, students will synthesize content instructed on and gathered through independent scholarly research.

In this course, students will examine U.S. history from the nation's beginnings to the 21st Century from the perspectives of groups that have been marginalized due to ethnicity, race, class, gender, and sexual identity. Students will analyze primary and secondary sources to develop arguments and use historical thinking skills.

College Preparatory Course (P). This course meets the University of California's a (history) subject area requirement. In Government 1 students apply knowledge gained in previous years of study to pursue a deeper understanding of the institutions of American government. This course focuses on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, the courts and governmental processes, the legislative and executive branches of government, state and local government, and comparative government.

This course and the prerequisite History HL1 1,2 IB together form an integrated two-year course of study that prepares students to take the IB Higher Level (HL) exam in history. The curriculum prepares them for both the regional studies portion of the HL exam and the world history portion by examining issues from both international and U.S. perspectives.

College Preparatory Course (P). This course meets the University of California's g (college preparatory elective) subject-area requirement. This one-semester course deepens students' understanding of the economic problems and institutions of the nation and the world. Students learn to make reasoned decisions on economic issues through the study of fundamental economic concepts, comparative economic systems, microeconomics, macroeconomics, and international economics.

College Preparatory Course (P). The 9th Grade English Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum, based on the theme of Identity & Relationships, allows students to explore their own identity as well as the different identities of those around them in their diverse communities. They will also critically examine systems of power that affect themselves and their communities.

This course prepares 9th grade students to engage with the Course Aims and Objectives of an International Baccalaureate (IB) higher level English Literature course in 11th and 12th grade. Students will read a range of literary texts, as well as engaging with nontraditional texts such as TED talks and films.

English 3,4 is a one-period literacy course required of all grade 10 students, except those enrolled in English 3,4 Block or English 3,4 Advanced. The course content focuses on teaching the students skills and strategies for critical, independent reading and writing of increasingly complex expository and narrative texts.

Students will develop an understanding and appreciation of literature and will grow in their abilities to respond to literature based on their own experiences. The writing process will be emphasized by the use of essay, research, and documentation as well as through creative writing.

College Preparatory Course (P). This course meets the University of California's b (English) subject-area requirement. This course emphasizes skills and strategies for independent reading of, analyzing, and writing about works of American literature, with a focus on how that literature reflects social, political, and moral issues in the United States.
