In 2D Arts Beginning, students build on their knowledge of the variety of media, skills, and processes in the 2D arts.  Course work incorporates deepening study of specific and specialized 2D media, skills, and processes.  Additionally, studio work incorporates adequate time to experiment with the course work, develop personal expressions, and reflect on artwork and their processes.  Within this context, students will be expected to deepen their understanding of various career opportunities in the 2D arts and the knowledge, skills, and educational requirements for those opportunities. This course may explore Drawing, Painting, Photo, Graphics, Animation, and Printmaking.

This intensive course provides a rigorous, dual-focus introduction to the essential practices of two-dimensional art by combining the full curricula of Drawing I and Painting I. Students will not only practice and apply the skills learned in Beginning 2D but will actively extend those techniques through complex concepts and "big ideas."<br>In 2D Arts Intermediate, students deepen their knowledge of the variety of media, skills, and processes in the 2D arts. Ceramics Beginning is an introduction course that includes instruction in hand-building techniques while exploring the versatility of clay. This class focuses on hand building skills such as pinch, coil and slab methods. Students also will learn about surface decoration and firing possibilities as well as gain an understanding of basic vocabulary of working with clay. Some schools may also introduce the potter's wheel at the beginning level. Additionally, the course incorporates the study of ceramics from a historical, social, and cultural viewpoint as a source of knowledge and inspiration.

Ceramics Intermediate is designed to expand student skills and knowledge in ceramics. Students will explore new mediums and hand building techniques while beginning to develop a personal style. The course may introduce or work to strengthen student skills on the potter's wheel. Students will also analyze their own work as well as study the merits and meanings of contemporary and historical works of art.

Ceramics Advanced is designed to deepen the ceramics knowledge of the student. Students may begin to specialize in a media / process while strengthening skills and developing a body of work that demonstrates a high level of expressiveness. Students will analyze their own work, participate in critiques, and continue to study master artworks as a source of learning and inspiration.

Jewelry Beginning is an introduction course that includes instruction in basic jewelry design. Typically, students explore using various media, such as ceramic, papier-mâché, glass, plastic, copper-enameled, brass, and silver. Some Jewelry courses may concentrate on metalwork processes such as brazing, soldering, casting, welding, riveting, and finishing as they relate to the creation of jewelry. Additionally, course incorporates the study of jewelry design from a historical, social, and cultural viewpoint as a source of knowledge and inspiration.

Jewelry & Metalwork I introduces metalsmithing techniques and design used for jewelry and small scale sculptural objects. This course introduces fabrication and forming techniques such as soldering, forming, hollow construction, cold connections, surface treatment, finishing processes, and basic stone setting. Jewelry & Metalwork II introduces intermediate metalsmithing techniques and design used for jewelry and small-scale, sculptural objects. This course covers intermediate fabrication and forming techniques including synclastic and anticlastic forming, forging, advanced soldering techniques, and lost-wax casting. The student will learn the hardware and software components for publication and multimedia production through execution in various vector, raster, page layout and multimedia programs. This course may support student-led investigations of specialized processes in Digital Photography, Graphic Design Arts, Multi-Media Arts, and Story Boarding.
