Ralston Valley Senior High School – Ceramics Beginning

Ceramics Beginning is an introduction course that includes instruction in hand-building techniques while exploring the versatility of clay. This class focuses on hand building skills such as pinch, coil and slab methods. Students also will learn about surface decoration and firing possibilities as well as gain an understanding of basic vocabulary of working with clay. Some schools may also introduce the potter's wheel at the beginning level. Additionally, the course incorporates the study of ceramics from a historical, social, and cultural viewpoint as a source of knowledge and inspiration.
