Studio Art 3 is an inspiring yearlong course that builds on the foundation of Art 1 and Art 2. This class is intended to give the art student an opportunity to advance their skills and complete a portfolio of artwork. In this course, students will progress through a variety of classroom assignments by responding to prompts that will inspire students to advance their techniques, concepts, and individualized style.  Students will keep a sketchbook where they document their creative process and references. This class will also help prepare students for taking AP studio art.

Advanced Placement 2D Art is a yearlong course that builds on the foundation of Studio Art 1, Studio Art 2 and Studio Art 3. AP 2D Art and Design is a course for the serious art student who is interested in an intensive investigation of art concepts, media and techniques after taking Visual Arts 1, 2, and 3. The focus of this class is to prepare students to meet the requirements of the College Board AP Studio Art Portfolio in 2D design through creating original art pieces. This class will offer students the opportunity to further master their skills in communicating concepts visually, developing their artistic voice, creating strong compositions and increasing techniques in various art media. This class is intended to give the serious art student an opportunity to advance their skills and complete a portfolio of artwork. The emphasis of this course is to prepare for the College Board Advanced Placement portfoliosubmission. Students will complete a portfolio by May of each year. Successful completion of assignments and participation are requirements for credit.

This introductory course explores the art of ceramics through hand-building techniques and the clay-working process. Students will learn foundational skills in creating ceramic forms while developing an understanding of artistic principles and design elements. The course fosters both creativity and technical ability, offering opportunities for growth to students of all skill levels.

Studio Art 1 introduces students to the fundamental principles of art and design. Through hands-on projects, students will explore various media, including pencil, charcoal, pastel, and paint. This course is designed for students seeking a comprehensive fine arts experience and is an excellent entry point for those planning to take additional art courses. The class emphasizes developing technical skills while understanding the elements of art and principles of design.

This course is designed to introduce students to ceramics building techniques and the clay-working process. Students will learn coil, pinch, and slab construction methods, surface glaze techniques, elements of art and principles of design in ceramics and sculpture. During this course students will develop original ideas and work, interpret and share their work, understand and evaluate how art may convey ideas/meaning, and relate artistic ideas to personal meaning.

Ceramics Art 2 provides students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding and practice of ceramic techniques, expanding on skills introduced in [Ceramics Art 1](https://www.isd411.org/academics/high-school-curriculum-pathways/course-catalog/course-description/~board/course-guide-hs/post/art110-ceramics-art-1). The course includes hand-building, wheel-throwing, and advanced decorative techniques while incorporating design principles and exploring ceramics' cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts.

Studio art 2 is an Invigorating class that takes your paintings and drawing skills to the next level. This course is a continuation of Studio Art 1 with special emphasis on elements and principles of design and composition. Techniques and media will include drawing with pencil, oil pastels, pen and ink, acrylic and watercolor painting. A wide variety of painting and drawing techniques will be explored, as well as a continuous emphasis on the elements and principles of art throughout the semester.

This course is a one semester course where students will continue to build their basic skills and learn more advanced techniques when working with clay. This Ceramics II class deals with hand building methods, design, aesthetics, and glaze techniques. There will be a strong emphasis on hand-building and beginning wheel techniques will be introduced.

Studio Art 3 is designed for serious art students who have demonstrated both basic and advanced art skills in Studio Art 1 and 2. This course focuses on refining students' abilities in two-dimensional media, including drawing and painting. Students will explore a wide range of media such as graphite, charcoal, ink, pastels, watercolor, acrylic paint, printmaking, and mixed media. The course emphasizes the elements of art and principles of design while encouraging the development of a personal artistic style.
