Aero. Science & Leadership 400
9-12
AS & LE 400 is the capstone course of the AFJROTC program, covering one of two possible aerospace science content areas. It provides students the opportunity to put theories of previous leadership courses into practice. Hands-on experience is gained through the planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and controlling of all cadet corps activities. Students further refine their leadership, communication, decision-making, personal interaction, managerial, and organizational skills. Alternatively, cultural studies and global awareness explores the history, geography, religions, languages, culture, political systems, economics, social issues, environmental concerns, and human rights issues that have shaped the six major regions of the world. For AS & LE 400, leadership studies covers the fundamentals of management including lessons on management techniques, conflict resolution, negotiation skills, mentoring, and self-development. Students are exposed to ethical dilemmas, case studies, and role play activities giving them the opportunity to practice what they learn by getting involved in discussions and expressing their opinions. Throughout the school year, cadets will also work on various elements of military drill including individual and group precision movements, procedures for saluting, ceremonies, parades, and development of the command voice. Outside the classroom, students have the opportunity to participate in various field trips, leadership development acitivities and community service events Additional Note: All students in the AFJROTC program will participate in the Wellness and Physical Training (PT) program. Team sports and other fitness-related activities are designed to motivate students to lead healthy, active lifestyles, provide leadership opportunities, build esprit de corps, and increase cadet confidence. AP Capstone is an innovative diploma program that allows students to develop the skills in research, collaboration, and communication. AP Capstone equips students with the power to explore academic and real-world issues from multiple perspectives to explore complex questions and understand and evaluate opposing viewpoints. The AP Research course allows students to design, plan, and conduct a yearlong investigation on a topic of their choosing with support from experts at the university or community level. Through research methodology, employing ethical research practices, and analyzing and synthesizing data, students present and orally defend their own scholarly academic research.
