AMPED on Algebra answers the age-old question in math, “When am I ever going to need to know this?” by teaching all grade-level Colorado Academic Standards for Mathematics aligned with Algebra I through a high-quality, contextually integrated, Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum. This interactive, hands-on, and fun class combines the best of mathematics with real-world, relevant CTE. Throughout the year, all students will: 1.) Receive extensive guidance through career planning with students’ future desired lifestyles in mind, 2.) Plan and set preliminary goals for their educational and career trajectory from 9th grade through adulthood to support their desired future lifestyles, 3.) Design and run a complete business enterprise producing t-shirts and other creative products for themselves and customers, 4.) Learn basic entrepreneurial business principles, including marketing, selling, scheduling, production, finance, and business planning. 5.) Earn industry-recognized certifications that are stackable and worthwhile for college, career, and life, 6.) Learn proper safety techniques, tool selection for multiple jobs, and problem-solving skills beyond the classroom, and 7.) Apply mathematics to careers ranging from graphic design, business, marketing, manufacturing, production, construction, and human services. ***Students choosing to enroll in the AMPED on Algebra program must register for all four course codes to the left of this description. (02052G05034, 02052G05044, 13001G05012, & 13001G05022) ****This course counts toward completing five career pathways at GMHS: Business, Business and Design, Media Arts, Construction, and the STEM Endorsed Diploma.

Construction Management II Cost Estimation (Fall) Construction Project Management I (Spring)

Construction Management II provides an opportunity for students to continue building on the knowledge and skills they have gained through experiences in Geometry in Construction and Construction Management 1. In addition to construction management principles and project management skills, all Construction Management II students will expand their understanding of the design process, technology utilized in the modern construction industry, building quality and inspection, building modeling, project management process, building standards and codes in both residential and commercial construction, budgeting, spending, and controlling costs. Lastly, Construction Management II students will be introduced to supervision and leadership techniques through experiences beyond the classroom, utilizing SkillsUSA, leadership on our construction site with Geometry in Construction students, and internship/job shadowing opportunities with our Work-Based Learning program in partnership with Jeffco's Career Links team. ***Students who enroll and complete the full year of Construction Management 2 (CM2) have an option to participate in concurrent enrollment through Red Rocks Community College. CM2 counts for 4 post-secondary construction credits for FREE, funded by the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF). These community college credits count toward an Associate's Degree and are guaranteed to transfer to any four-year college or university in Colorado. ****NOTE: Students who complete Geometry in Construction, Construction Management 1, and Construction Management 2 will have completed a total of fourteen credits through Red Rocks Community College and concurrent enrollment for FREE utilizing Colorado Opportunity Funds (COF).

Geometry in Construction at GMHS is a course where students learn exactly how math is used in the real world by combining the best practices of mathematical instruction with the real-world relevance of Career and Technical Education (CTE). All geometric mathematical standards and competencies aligned with the National and Colorado Academic Standards for Mathematics are delivered and taught in addition to the necessary skills for entry-level work in various careers for the human-built world. This team-taught class is a dynamic, fun, and hands-on way to learn geometry. All students who enroll in the program will: 1.) Understand and learn the importance of geometry in relation to engineering, architecture, construction, interior design, landscape architecture, building trades, surveying, and the business careers that support the human-built world, 2.) Earn two industry-recognized certifications that are capable of helping with future employment opportunities, 3.) Gain exposure to practical skills in building and carpentry trades by constructing small projects as well as large projects, such as our annual modular Habitat for Humanity home, which we construct in the high school parking lot, 4.) Use and apply coordinate geometry in the study of area, perimeter, volume, transformations, congruence, Pythagorean theorem, similar figures, trigonometry, quadrilateral properties, circle properties, logic, and functions, and 5.) Give back to the community in a powerful and meaningful way by building a home for a local family in need. ***Students choosing to enroll in the Geometry in Construction program must register for all four course codes to the left of this description. (02072G05034, 02072G05044, 17002G05032, and 17002G05042) ****The Geometry in Construction program counts toward career pathway completion/concentration in Construction, and the STEM Endorsed Diploma pathways. *****Successful completion of Geometry in Construction and embedded course curricula of OSHA-10 certification (Semester 1), coupled with HBI-PACT Core certification (Semester 2), meets the graduation requirements and competency for Math and Reading/Writing. This can serve as the minimum graduation requirement for the SAT and/or Capstone. ******Students who enroll and complete the full year of Geometry in Construction have an option to participate in concurrent enrollment through Red Rocks Community College. Geometry in Construction counts for 4 post-secondary carpentry basics credits for FREE, funded by the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF).
