Students receive specially designed instruction in study skills and areas designated in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP) as well as support with their mainstream classes as outlined in their IEP. The topics covered are study skills, problem solving skills, organization skills, self-empowerment and communication with others.

Students learn about modeling data and problem situations with functions, specifically linear quadratic, polynomial, exponential, rational, radical, and logarithmic functions. They are also introduced to complex numbers and problems in trigonometry and statistics. Students work both individually and in groups to solve problems, apply mathematics, and communicate their reasoning.

Coursework includes designing and implementing larger-scale school and community initiatives, managing diverse teams, and evaluating the outcomes of their efforts. Students will take on greater responsibility for leading assemblies, service projects, and extracurricular activities while learning how to mentor peers and foster collaboration. In addition to honing practical leadership skills, students will explore advanced topics such as ethical decision-making, cultural competency, and systems thinking. This hands-on, project-based course requires significant initiative, responsibility, and time commitment, including work beyond school hours. Prerequisite: Intro to Leadership

This is a wild ride of the brain from poetry to stand-up comedy to philosophy to marketing. Like Beginning Speech, this course covers a wide range of speech and debate with elements of student choice in each unit. The biggest difference is that each unit is deeper, more detailed. Students mentor emerging speakers through peer coaching and even run lessons on public speaking in other classes.

Using the representation of functions as a unifying theme, students are introduced to linear, quadratic, exponential, and polynomial functions through graphical, numerical, and symbolic representations. They learn to solve linear equations, inequalities, systems of equations, and quadratic equations and deepen their understanding of basic algebraic concepts through hands-on activities. They also develop confidence in their ability to think mathematically.

Students in this project-based course explore form, function, and aesthetics. They use a variety of materials and techniques which may include clay, mixed-media sculpture, weaving, plaster, wire, small metals, and jewelry design. Students create prototypes as well as a final product for each design challenge. Class sessions may include hands-on activities, group discussions, demonstrations, and slide-presentations to reinforce the key ideas. Topics may include identifying consumer needs, investigating problems in design, refining ideas, material use, design for production and manufacturing, production costs, and retail pricing.

Students explore fine metals/jewelry design, garment patterning and making, woodworking/joinery and furniture building, advanced leathercraft techniques, and brand identity. Class sessions are primarily workshop based and include hands-on activities, group discussion, demonstrations, and slide presentations to reinforce the key ideas. Instruction and assessment are standards based. Each unit of study is presented with specific criteria in technical skills, design and compositional requirements, and content exploration. Proficiency is assessed using a quarterly portfolio scoring guide. Prerequisite: Art of Product Design 1-2.

Students in this advanced course build on the skills learned in beginning and intermediate courses. Areas of study may include drawing, painting, printmaking, and using a variety of media such as ink, charcoal, pen, pencil, acrylic, water-based oil paint, and mixed media. Students build their portfolio of work, have opportunities to engage with professional artists and attend gallery walks, and are encouraged to deepen their creativity by drawing inspiration from various sources. Prerequisite: Art: Intermediate 3-4.

Students in this project-based class explore the elements and principles of art and design using a variety of media. Students focus on foundational and technical skills in media that may include drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, digital media, and sculpture. They develop skills in observation, problem-solving, creative-thinking, and critical evaluation through a historical lens.

Students continue to focus on elements and principles of design, techniques, and concepts as they pertain to art making. A variety of two-dimensional media are explored including but not limited to pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, art markers, pastels, acrylics, watercolor, collage materials, and printmaking. Students are encouraged to draw inspiration from movements in art history, personal experience, current events, and more. Prerequisite: Art: Beginning 1-2.

AVID prepares students for success in a four-year college or university. This course expands on the use of writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading strategies across the content areas, but also includes a focus on college and career research and college application. AVID 10-12 supports students in navigating both the college and financial aid application process. AVID students are expected to maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate exceptional classroom behavior and leadership, and participate actively in student-led tutorials and other AVID activities.

Credit: Meets the English requirement for the Modified Diploma or is an elective credit for the Standard Diploma when co-enrolled in general ed. English class. Language is a researched-based comprehensive curriculum whose core concept is "From Oral Fluency to Sound to Text". Language is a direct instruction program that includes baseline and ongoing assessments for each of its units to measure individual progress. Students will improve their writing, reading, listening, observation and critical thinking skills.
