Students build literacy foundations by learning sounds, letters, and how spoken words connect to print. They develop comprehension strategies—such as asking questions, making predictions, and retelling—and express ideas through drawings, letters, and simple sentences.

Instruction focuses on representing and comparing whole numbers using sets of objects and numerals. Students solve quantitative problems involving counting, joining, and separating (addition and subtraction). They also identify and describe 2D shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, octagons) and 3D shapes (cubes, cones, cylinders, spheres).

Students engage in hands-on exploration of Earth, Life, and Physical Science. Topics include plants, living versus non-living matter, and the basics of rocks, motion, and matter.

Students are introduced to history through American holidays and symbols, basic geography, and civics (rules and character traits of good citizens). Basic economic concepts are also covered.

Students explore the creative process, learn basic art vocabulary, and produce artwork using various subjects and themes.

Students perform and demonstrate a basic understanding of pitch and rhythm.

Students develop reading and writing skills through structured literacy, phonics, and high-frequency words. They learn to retell stories with key details, describe characters and settings, use text evidence to support ideas, and identify main topics in informational texts. Writing focus includes planning, revising, and understanding language conventions.

Instruction covers numerical reasoning, measurement and data, patterning and algebraic reasoning, and geometric and spatial reasoning. Students extend counting sequences, develop place value understanding, use part-whole strategies for addition and subtraction, tell time, and reason with shapes and data.

Students explore the natural world, focusing on the basic needs and characteristics of plants and animals. They use scientific tools and technology to document observations, analyze weather data, and investigate physical science topics including sound, light, and magnetism.

The curriculum introduces U.S. history through selected historical figures and their contributions. Geography focuses on where these figures lived, while civics emphasizes their positive character traits. Basic economic concepts are also introduced.
