I'm a recent graduate of Case Western Reserve University with a B.A. in Biology and Cognitive Science, as well as a minor in French. I'm interested in going back to school for either environmental studies or law, but I still have some deciding to do in that regard! My tutoring experience has been varied, from helping peers with homework, assisting my young nephews and nieces with their reading and writing, to mentoring the younger students at the dance studio I used to attend. These are just some of the ways that I've learned to tutor. My favorite things to tutor are writing and algebra. Both are things that can appear complicated and difficult, but often there is only one stumbling block that a student is having a problem with. Once you isolate the issue, everything becomes simple! My tutoring style is to talk and work through a lot of practice problems together. When the student feels comfortable tackling some practice problems on their own, I know they've mastered the concept. I'm also a great listener; if you tell me that you are having a problem in a certain area of a subject, I can very much tailor the lesson and practice problems to the target area. Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time submerged in water! I love windsurfing, scuba diving, and going to the beach. I'm also a huge, huge fan of snow! I ski every chance I get, and lately I've been getting into snowboarding! When I'm just relaxing, I enjoy a good book, a hot mug of tea, and fuzzy blankets.

I'm a Math and French major at Brown University, and I've been tutoring for over three years. I am a rising sophomore in Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. I am majoring in security studies thinking about working in counterterrorism. As far as tutoring style, I think it is really important not to give the student the answers but to ask them questions and help them come up with strategies to get to the answer for themselves; the goal is to make myself unnecessary in a way. My strengths (in school and tutoring) are in foreign languages including Latin and humanitiesexpect a very enthusiastic tutor especially if we are talking about Shakespeare! I also think it is important to try and frame things in a context students are used to, so if that means watching She's the Man in order to understand Twelfth Night, then that's what we will do (although we do have to read the actual play as well). I am a recent cum laude graduate of Claremont McKenna College in Southern California, and this summer I will begin studying at Columbia University Teachers College in New York where I am working to earn my master's in Education for 7-12 English. I have worked as Head Consultant at my school's Center for Writing and Public Discourse for the past three years. I was a member of my school's Educational Task Force where I taught weekend seminars for high school students who were brave enough to come in on Saturday mornings. For these students (many of whom were the first in their families to apply to college), I provided college essay help and was the lead teacher for a semester-long photojournalism/spoken-word course. Last summer I worked at an educational nonprofit in New York to support educational workshops and help organize a College App Essay Bootcamp for 150 students. Two summers ago I was the Teaching Artist Cadre Development & High School Readiness Project Intern at an arts and literacy non-profit in Chicago called Changing Worlds. The next summer as Education Intern I taught, organized lesson plans, and created lending library for a preschool for homeless children in Washington D.C. I have studied French for nine years and have studied abroad twice - once in Brest, Bretagne and once at Universit de Vincennes Saint-Denis in Paris. For fun I love to write satire/humor for a website I created, write and perform spoken word poetry, and train for my next big running goal. French is my mother tongue, as my mom's family all immigrated from France and still have a home there that I visit for several months every year. I've continued with my French education at the University of Michigan where I major in Creative Writing. I am a PhD student at the University of Michigan, studying social psychology. Before this, I was at Duke University completing a BS in psychology as well as a MS in global health.
