I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and minors in Environmental Science and Spanish. For a year after graduation I worked in a biochemical research lab where I studied various protein pathways in cancer cells. I then left to begin my Peace Corps service as a high school Math teacher in Mozambique where I learned Portuguese, in which I taught. I also taught English to a group of adults and a group of adolescents. In addition I have been a math tutor for adults working to obtain the equivalent of a high school diploma. I can tutor all levels of high school Math, (AP) Chemistry, (AP) Biology, Spanish, (AP) Language, (AP) Literature, and general reading and writing. I love teaching because I can share my love of learning, and for the sense of purpose that mentorship brings. I can help your child understand whatever they are having trouble learning because I am patient, interesting, and fun, and can explain concepts in a creative way.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with my BA from St. Edward's University in Communication and a member of the Honors program where I completed my undergraduate thesis. I also work as a freelance journalist and enjoy photography in my spare time!

College English Tutor • +9 Subjects
I am a graduate of Linfield College. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a focus on nature literature and rhetoric. I also received a minor in Psychology. In my spare time I read, focusing on personal development, and spend as much time as possible with my strong wife. I also hike, exercise, write and spend time with my family. Some of my favorite moments during my education were working one on one with students to not only help improve their writing, but to improve their thinking and the way they analyze the world. Teaching is a huge passion for me. I found this to be my calling as I retired from collegiate football with an injury and began to coach and help create Linfield College's football training program. Through this experience, my love for helping people learn and to eventually become teachers in their own right blossomed. While I specifically tutor writing (from MLA to APA formatting and styles) my tutoring style focuses on creating independent and critical thinkers. My hope and goal is for you to leave one of my tutoring sessions not feeling like you have been told everything you have done wrong, but to have been challenged to take ownership of your learning, writing and ultimately your thinking. I don't want perfect students. Rather, I want to tutor students with passions and curiosities, who aren't afraid to work on their weaknesses and have a hunger for learning and thinking outside the box. My firm belief remains that as you become a better writer you will become a better thinker, a better member of our society and ultimately a stronger person as a result. If you are reading this, you have already distinguished yourself as someone who seeks help and wants to become better. Successful people are not fearless, but instead they stand up and face their fears and move forward. Seeking help is often a frightening experience, especially in the arena of writing. This being said, I encourage you to come to our sessions brandishing your weaknesses, proud of your strengths, and hungry to improve.

AP Calculus AB Tutor • +4 Subjects
I am a retired high school Math Teacher and Principal with over 35 years experience working with students. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics from the University of Mary Washington and a Masters of Science in Computer Science from Hood College. I also hold certifications for Math 8-12, Computer Science, and Secondary Administration I and II.I have been tutoring all manner of math, computer science, and test prep related courses online since 2015. For the past 4 years my focus has been almost exclusively on tutoring calculus (AP Calc AB, AP Calc BC , College Calc 1, College Calc 2). These are my favorite courses to tutor as I taught the AP program for nearly 20 years before becoming a high school administrator. My methodology is teaching students to think and to diagnose problems, thus helping them to develop strong habits of mind and self-confidence in problem solving. I ask as many, if not more, questions than I answer. I can quickly determine a student's weaknesses and prescribe a learning plan to address them. My goal is to make my presence redundant as the student builds a tool box of mathematical reasoning and processing skills that will allow them an increased sense of independence.Outside of teaching, my interests are centered on the Philadelphia sports teams (Fly Eagles Fly!!), Ford Mustangs and video games (Madden, Golf, third person adventures).

I am a graduate of DePaul University with an International Studies degree. I also received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Spanish and International Studies with a focus on Latin American Studies. Since graduation, I have translated, interpreted and tutored children in Spanish and ELL. I have also been a substitute teacher for at least two years. I strongly believe that "No Child shall be Left Behind." I am currently obtaining my teaching certificate for the State of Wisconsin in Spanish while attending Educate Wisconsin/St. Mary's University of Minnesota. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Spanish, Latin American history, and International Studies which includes governance, history, culture, language, religion, economics, etc. In my experience helping struggling students by having fun keeps the student engaged in their studies. Every child should be provided the means to strive forward to gain the knowledge and skills to be a University student. It is important in this day in age to at least have your Bachelor's degree to get a good job and I understand that writing and reading is the most important to graduate. In my spare time I like to travel south to see my parents and many different areas in Mexico. I like to read newspapers about politics, volunteer during my spare time with the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, domestic violence shelters, etc. For fun, I am pretty laid back, I like to sing, I like to watch movies, independent films, and reality tv.

“The whole art of teaching is only the art of awakening the natural curiosity of young minds for the purpose of satisfying it afterwards," wrote Anatole France. This statement is an excellent introduction to my teaching philosophy. I believe that the fundamental responsibility and challenge in teaching is to transmit one's own enthusiasm and curiosity to students. In my experience, once students are curious and engaged, teaching is much more effective and enjoyable. I have found this to be successful in lecture, laboratory, and individual tutoring settings.I am currently an adjunct lecturer in the physics department at the College of Staten Island, and I am working on my Ph.D. in theoretical/mathematical physics from Kent State University (Kent, OH). I have been tutoring and assisting students in introductory-level physics courses since 2004, and I greatly enjoy the teaching aspect of graduate school. As a teaching assistant in both laboratory and lecture settings over the course of six years, my average overall rating from undergraduate evaluations is 4.37 (out of 5). In addition to teaching college students, I have mentored high school students working on science fair projects in the Washington, DC, area. I am a member of the American Physical Society and the New York Academy of Sciences. My primary tutoring interests are physics, mathematics, and SAT prep, and in the rare moments when I’m not teaching or working on my dissertation, I enjoy practicing yoga and playing music.

I am a recent MBA graduate and relocated to Atlanta from Los Angeles, CA. I have tutored middle and high school students on everything from essay writing to math and I am also a volunteer for the Junior Achievement program. I believe that learning should be fun. I know that each student is different and I adapt my tutoring style to the student's style of learning. I am a visual learner and find that drawing out a problem really helps students grasp a problem or concept. In the long run, I want to work in education reform. In my free time, I like to run, try new recipes (or restaurants), travel to places near and far and hang out with friends.
