I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010 with a B.A in Women and Gender Studies. In addition to my writing-intensive major, I took a well-rounded premedical course load with some of my favorite classes being physiology, anatomy, organic chemistry and microbiology. I have always loved teaching and editing papers. My experience includes helping my sister with her anatomy and other biology classes as well as tutoring a friend in chemistry and physics.My style of tutoring is a very collaborative process with lots of time for the person I'm tutoring to ask clarifying questions . I really enjoy taking seemingly difficult topics and explaining them in a logical fashion while emphasizing the basics every step of the way. I find that students' frustration with a concept generally stems from uncertainty regarding how to organize many intersecting ideas. Nothing makes me more proud then watching a student master a formerly daunting topic.When I'm not tutoring you can either find me salsa dancing at Atomic Cowboy, making pies, soups and fresh bread in my itsy-bitsy kitchen, or working at Pi on the Delmar Loop.

Graduating in 2008 from the University of Kentucky, I received a Bachelor's degree in Spanish. While attending the university, I spent a semester studying Spanish in Madrid, Spain. Following my graduation, I began my teaching career at a public high school in Kentucky. I have teaching experience in both public and private high school settings, but can teach all ages and levels. I enjoy more than anything to see students learn Spanish Language and Culture.

I love being an advocate and assisting students! I have experience working with students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Currently, I am a special education teacher, and I co-teachhigh school Physical Science and Biology. I have a BS with a major in the Natural Sciences and a M.A.T. with a concentration in Middle School Science. I am available to tutor science, special education, and PRAXIS. I believe student-centered learning, with the use of all the senses, is the best way for students to gather and process information.

I'm passionate about teaching students in the areas of reading comprehension, grammar, and English literature. For two semesters I served as instructional associate for a course in introductory grammar at Syracuse University's prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. It was one of the most rewarding experiences I had as a graduate student. I loved seeing my students make progress and begin enjoying a course that they had been struggling with.

I am a junior pre-med student studying health management at Saint Louis University. I began tutoring my peers in high school and continued my passion for teaching throughout college. For the latter, I scored in the 98th percentile of the LSAT and achieved admission to a a top-25 law school with a generous scholarship.It's tremendously fulfilling to see students grow as writers and as thinkers as they progress through a curriculum, something I am very fortunate to witness. While I have always excelled at writing academic essays, it wasn't until my time at UMSL that I turned this proficiency into a profession; my two years as a Writing Lab Tutor was a fulfilling and life-changing experience for me. While my area of expertise is academic writing, I have a strong grasp of the underlying rhetorical principles that make for effective writing in various contexts.I know exactly what teachers and administrators are looking for in "good writing," but this isn't something that I was born with or that came naturallyit is a learned skill that my own teachers have cultivated by building upon the skills I brought to the classroom. If my teachers had not recognized this, I would have had considerably more difficulty succeeding in the academic sphere. As such, the most influential facet of my own teaching philosophy is my commitment to respecting student intelligences. If my students are not confident in the abilities they bring with them to the tutoring session, then the likelihood of facilitating sustainable improvement in the student drops dramatically. In light of this, my tutoring style foregrounds the importance of first reinforcing the knowledge my students already have and then building off of this knowledge.
