I am a math teacher at King's Way High School in Vancouver, WA. In 2016, I earned my B.A. in Mathematics and Russian from Portland State University (PSU). In 2017, I got my Masters in Education, also from PSU. This 2017-2018 school year will be my first year of teaching, and I am very excited to begin my career as an educator. I came into this field because I believe that my strength is my ability to present and explain math in a way that's easy to grasp and appreciate. Anybody can copy and paste the formulas onto the blackboard or screen, but not everybody can take a seemingly complicated subject and break it down into simple, understandable terms. In my practice, I want to make it my mission to make math interesting and engaging for all students.In my previous experiences working as a tutor, I've realized that I'm not only teaching; I'm also continually learning. I take a great interest in language and social science. Growing up, I was educated in a bilingual institution (Spanish and English), but have taken to learning other languages at a university level, such as French and German. My interest in social sciences was fostered by my academic coursework as I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. I achieved a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a concentration in Archaeology and Religious Studies at New York University and recently acquired a Master of Science in Zooarchaeology at the University of York (United Kingdom). My specialization in archaeological science has enabled me to learn a broad spectrum of topics that span from history to geochemistry, genetics, and biology. I am however a huge animal lover (hence the 'zoo' in zooarchaeology! Have you been brushing up on your Greek?).Although I spend a significant amount of time in a trench or in the laboratory, one of my favorite aspects of academia is teaching, passing down the tomes of human knowledge to those who come after you. This is one reason why I highly value being able to teach and tutor. I would like for students to be as excited about these topics as I am! This requires being adaptable and perceptive in order to meet the student's needs as an instructor. I hope we can make a great team and achieve your academic goals.

I enjoy working with students of all ages to find strategies to help them learn better and prepare for taking the next step with their education. I have a diverse background in many fields, including writing, music, biology, and mathematics. I've worked as a graduate school TA and been responsible for designing lectures at the graduate level. I've worked abroad and within the United States with language learners hoping to increase their mastery of English. Hello! My name is Austin! I am a Certified Veterinary Technician who works in companion animal practice. I am also an overnight technician in the equine department at the OSU veterinary teaching hospital. I have both an associates and bachelors degree in Veterinary Technology, but am also currently working toward achieving my BS in Biology at Oregon State University. I am concurrently studying for a minor in mathematics, chemistry, and education. I have a great interest in veterinary medicine, but my true passion is in anesthesia. In my free time, I have a horse who I compete with. I also enjoy running, baking, and teaching!

I am naturally drawn to helping and teaching people. I have two years of experience tutoring Math and Reading to students from preschool to high school age. It was in my high school, in Minnesota, that I began tutoring peers, offering my talents to help people on both the literary and technical aspects of writing, editing, and Math.At Principia College, in Illinois, I earned a Bachelor's in Environmental Biology. I was a Teaching Assistant for different Biology classes. The Science field requires a entirely different approach to writing and I enjoyed helping my peers make that transition.I love nature, which is why I chose to study Biology. The desire to learn about amazing things in the real world, or what might help our future, is something that helps students dedicate themselves to education, whichever path they want to follow.I like to help students find reasons that they can be personally interested in subjects. I am very patient and compassionate, trustworthy, resourceful and fun. In my spare time, I enjoy Yoga, dance, singing and playing music with friends.
