Session Summaries by ACT Tutors

ACT Tutoring review by Courtney in San Diego, CA
The student worked a little more in some of her test book and wrote another timed essay for today's session. This essay was much improved from the one she wrote yesterday, and we talked about how she could consistently write at this higher level. I made sure to explain that prompt topics will differ and sometimes be easier or more difficult depending on the topic, so she should just try to do her best with whatever is presented. We went through all the other sections and reviewed our test-taking strategies and did some practice problems. The student is consistently scoring around a 30 in all sections, so if she can maintain this she will improve from her previous ACT scores. Her biggest challenge is Science, but we went over more ways for her to be prepared for difficult and unexpected questions in the section and she seems confident going into her test on Saturday.

ACT Tutoring review by Rebecca in San Diego, CA
The student and I reviewed grammar and reading comprehension sections together. She has gotten a lot better at the reading comprehension, and actually, this is her best section! Some of the grammar questions, especially the ones with individual questions are consistently troublesome spots, and it seems to be because she isn't reading carefully. We practiced reading the stems carefully and then predicting what the answer should be before going straight to the answer choices.

We spent some time on the approach to the essay and how it differs from the SAT essay, and overviewed all the sections. English should be a very strong section for the student if she slows down a bit. Math is also solid if she reads the questions carefully. Strong math/English scores. The student knows what to do, she'll do great!

The student and I continued working through the math portion of the ACT. He continues to demonstrate that he knows the material well. The skill we are working on is spotting what specific math topic the ACT is trying to test. He is making much progress compared to our first session at doing this. With one more session to go before the test on Saturday, the student will want focus on overcoming the mental barriers that he will likely fact.

The student and I went over some problems she was confused about on her last practice test, and solidified her test taking techniques. I'm very confident that she will raise her score significantly this time around!

ACT Tutoring review by Sujana in San Diego, CA
The student and I went over two ACT practice tests. The student has improved tremendously since we started working together. She was initially scoring a composite of 22 and has improved to the point that she scored a composite of 27 on both of these past two practice tests. I have no doubt that she can score at least a 27 on the ACT (and likely even higher).
