What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is that with hard work anything can be accomplished.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session with a student I may get to know them (their interests, hobbies, etc.), as well as learn what their struggles are with the subject that I am going to be tutoring them in. Then we get to work on some subject tutoring.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become and independent learner by giving them the resources they need to succeed, as well as aid them in learning how to use these resources.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would always give positive feedback and encouragement with all their accomplishments, as well as make practice problems that relate to their lives.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would work with them and try to give them a variety of resources to use. I would also attempt to give the student a variety of avenues to choose from on how to learn the information.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I try to give more visuals and provide them with tactics on how to break up the text so it is easy to understand.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Finding common ground and interests I feel is the most useful thing to do with a new student.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would make the information that we are covering relative to their interests outside of the classroom.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would use practice assessment questions that would most likely be found on a test.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
By always offering encouragement.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I go over the process they take to solving problems and analyze to see where the shortcomings are.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I provide a variety of different resources for them to use.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Practice problems, diagrams, videos, and pictures.
