What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During our first session, I would provide the student with a baseline assignment so we can determine his or her strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, I would discuss with the student what they are hoping to gain from our sessions and how they best learn.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can provide the proper structure and organization to a student's study skills so that the student feels confident doing high quality work on his or her own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would continually encourage the student to put their best effort towards all academic pursuits. The old adage "practice makes perfect" is never more true than in academic tutoring.
