The student and I reviewed for her physics test that is going to be held on Wednesday. Most of the material regarded impulse and momentum, which the student understood very well.

The student requested she work on her persuasive speech for language arts. She had a positive attitude and had good, clear ideas of where she wanted her paper to go. I think she will do well and next time she will be practicing her presentation. She also finished her unit 5 vocabulary assignment, and I was able to quiz her on her words. Something I liked was that she came up with the idea of using one of her new vocabulary words in her speech! Great session.

Tutoring review by Ahmad in Port Angeles, WA
Today we covered power, Taylor, and Maclaurin series. We found the radii and intervals of convergence using the ratio and root tests. At the endpoints, we checked to see whether the series converged. For certain integrals, we converted the function to a power series and then found the antiderivative. We approximated the value of the integral using the fact that the error would be less than the first unused term in the series. Such functions included variations of e^x, sin x, and cos x. The student was eager to learn the material.

We worked more on proper notation, labeling and drawing of geometric figures: lines, rays, line segments, angles. The student needs to slow down when reading and answering questions to make sure he is understanding what type of figure it is asking for. He has a quiz on Tuesday, so I helped him prepare by writing a short quiz over the same topic. We went a little further than the class is now with our extra time and talked more about angles and how to label them.

Tutoring review by Leora-Dona in Port Angeles, WA
Monday was our first meeting and the student was reviewing concepts from chapter 4, sections 1-4, in preparation for re-taking a quiz. The focus was on solving exponential equations, so we made a list of the rules for the mathematical functions when working with exponents. She had a few questions about how we should solve different kinds of problems, but did very well as we continued to practice. I asked her to write down any questions that she may develop over the next week and share them with me.

I reviewed percentage change with the student, working a set of problems with him. He has a good understanding of what to do, but still occasionally makes small errors. I will be sending some more work for him to practice along with the absolute value equations I left him.
