I am a graduate of UW-Eau Claire with a BS in communication sciences and disorders and an MS in speech-language pathology. While in school, I was a TA and completed a masters thesis. I have been an SLP for 6 years and that continues to be my "day job." I wanted to get into tutoring because I wanted something flexible while still teaching- it truly is a passion of mine! I've learned a lot being in public education, including working with students who have a wide variety of needs. I meet students where they are at with their skills and use their interests and strengths to continue progressing their goals. I am a great listener and place a lot of value on forming strong relationships with my students.

I attended Denison University in Ohio where I earned a B.A. in psychology, summa cum laude, with a minor in music performance (trumpet). I was a department fellow and tutor, primarily working with psychology and writing students, and also worked as a stage manager in the music department. After college, I headed to The Ohio State University where I earned a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology with a specialization in college teaching. While I was a graduate student, I taught general psychology and ACT prep courses and scored ACT and SAT writing exams. Thanks to my education, I am an expert in psychology, reading, writing, and general scientific literacy. As a teacher and a tutor, I have worked with students ranging from children to doctoral degree candidates. I like tutoring students individually because it allows me to tailor my approach to each student in a way that I could never do in a classroom. Outside of my work, I enjoy listening to music, bicycling, cooking, and occasionally playing my trumpet.

Since graduation, I have been an editorial assistant at a publishing company. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English and Spanish. I am a honors student at the University of Minnesota, studying aerospace engineering and computer science. As such I have a strong background in STEM, and I hope I can bring this expertise to you. As an honors student, I have taken challenging courses that go above and beyond what is required in physics, calculus, and programming. I have experience tutoring my peers at the university, and I am on track to get CRLA tutoring certified. I find that the best way to get students to learn is to connect with them at a personal level and to do example problems to get practice at applying the concepts learned from class.

After graduation in 2011, I worked as a neuroscience researcher and, later, as a technologist and data scientist for Goldman Sachs and World Wrestling Entertainment. I am currently pursuing a creative writing career in addition to tutoring students. My tutoring specialties are the SAT and ACT Reading and Writing sections, in addition to the ACT Science section and general essay writing. My philosophy on college entrance exams is that practice tests are most valuable when combined with training in the general principles of English language, vocabulary and reading comprehension for which the ACT and SAT test. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy watching movies, going to concerts, and playing board games.

I have been speaking and continually learning French for 4 years. I started at the university level. I spent a total of 6 months in France learning at a French University.I hold a Diplme d'tudes en Langue Franaise level B2 that is good for life. I believe learning another language is not a sprint, but rather a marathon.

I am currently a student at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and receiving my B.A. in French with a concentration in educational studies and linguistics. My love for french and francophone cultures began when I was a student at a french immersion elementary school. I have been studying french for 15 years already! My hobbies include traveling, singing, playing in orchestra, hiking, swimming and spending time with friend and family. I dream of teaching english abroad after graduating from St. Olaf, maybe in France, Switzerland, Morocco or another francophone country. I'm in love with Minneapolis and the Twin Cities and hope to come back to the cities to get my Master's degree.

With a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Rice University and a PhD in biophysical chemistry from Stanford University, I have passion for science and mathematics that I love to share as a teacher and tutor. I am firmly of the belief that learning a technical subject like chemistry, physics, or math is much like learning a foreign language: listening and reading is much easier than speaking and writing. It is all too easy to fall into the trap of believing that if you come to class and understand what the instructor is saying, you don't need to practice the material. Accordingly, I emphasize the need to practice "speaking" the language on a regular basis and to receive immediate feedback on one's learning. In my free time I enjoy woodworking and playing with Legos with my small children.

I believe that every student has different learning strategies and strengths. I focus on identifying the students strengths and interests and incorporating them to make their learning interactive and enjoyable. I spent this past year working in an alternative high school, providing academic tutoring and emotional support to students. I am well versed in high school curriculum, including Pre-Algebra, Biology, US History, and Spanish. I currently provide additional support to students during this time of distance learning, including students in grades K-8. In my free time, I enjoy taking bike rides, cooking up new foods, and hammocking with friends.
