About Me

Having retired from full-time work after 34 years as an English teacher, I want to continue helping students to understand and enjoy literature and to write with lucidity and grace. I'm very experienced with one-on-one sessions; in fact, as the director of a writing center, I've trained others to be effective tutors. I especially enjoy helping high school juniors and seniors with their college application essays. I graduated first in my class from Hampden-Sydney College, Virginia with a B.A. in English; held two scholarships at the University of Oxford; and earned an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland. The bulk of my teaching career was spent at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and at The Park School of Baltimore.
