About Me

I am a fully licensed teacher with a passion for helping people achieve success with their educational goals. I graduated from the University of Richmond in 2011 with a Bachelors in History and a minor in secondary education. Since then, I have taken additional training courses in teaching special education, and reading and writing techniques. I got my start in education ten years ago working with English Language Learners. Since then, I have played a variety of roles, and have worked with students of all ages in many subject areas. Some of my more notable educational jobs include working with special education students in grades 7-12 as a learning coach, teaching high school world history and sociology in rural Virginia, working as a teaching assistant in a 5th grade classroom, substitute teaching, and tutoring. Each of these roles has given me a unique insight into teaching and has taught me which strategies work best for certain types of students. My experience has also made me realize the importance of helping each student discover the ways in which they learn best, and I strive to work closely with my students to ensure that they get the most out of their education. My main philosophy of teaching is that learning should be inspiring. Even when the going gets tough, my hope is that my students can walk away from their studies with something positive to contribute to themselves and the world. I achieve this by making learning engaging and relevant. I like to make learning student centered; meaning that the student is actively involved in choosing what method(s) they would like to use in their learning. I also like to assist students with making real-world connections to their learning whenever possible, so that they can turn their classroom achievements into life successes. When Im not teaching, I like to spend time with my daughter, play my flute, and invent new recipes in my kitchen.
