About Me

I obtained my Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems from the University of Houston, TX in Dec 2012. I also completed my Advanced Levels, GCE, in Accounting, Economics in May 2006. I obtained a Diploma in Painting and Sketching and have completed Illustration Techniques I (illustrator), Digital Imaging I (Photoshop), and Basic Graphic Design Courses from Houston Community College, TX. I have Tutoring/mentoring experience for over five years for elementary and middle students and teaching experience for elementary students. I'm a 29-year-old female with a true passion for mathematics, digital arts, and accounting. I have been tutoring for over four years now and have had great success with my students, ranging from middle school to college-age, and non-traditional students. I began tutoring by helping other students in my high school classes. I have been tutoring online since then and also a few times in person. I also work as a freelance graphic designer and have experience in Adobe Suite, especially in Illustrator and Photoshop. As a Management Information Systems graduate I also work as a Data Analyst for a well known marketing company. I am new to Varsity tutoring and hope to have a great experience with new and existing students and to spread whatever knowledge I have in order for them to succeed. Please contact me with any questions you may have! I look forward to working with you to reach your goals!

Q&A with Samar

My belief is that each child has a unique personality and a different set of abilities. My main purpose as a tutor/mentor is to develop my student's personality in a way that he feels secure and cared for so that he/she can grow not only academically, but also emotionally and socially. As an educator, I believe that it is my responsibility to boost my student's self-esteem and confidence by providing them with an environment where they can share ideas without the fear of feeling any lesser than others in any way. My number one rule is always to make my students believe that in my class, "there is no stupid question." If a student would feel the need to lie about understanding a concept fully, I consider that as my failure, and I strive my best to not let that happen with my students. My utmost responsibility is to make my student thoroughly understand the concept, whatever I am teaching, and to achieve that goal. I encourage them to ask questions.
