I am a junior studying Writing for Screen and Television at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. For the past two spring semesters I worked as a CollegeSpring Mentor, tutoring Green Dot Charter high school juniors for the SAT and teaching them predatory skills for college. In addition to my experience tutoring for the SAT, as a screenwriting major I most enjoy teaching my favorite subject, English. I love showing students the power language endows upon them to communicate their ideas and beliefs with others. I believe every student deserves the chance to succeed and to try to capitalize on their strengths while encouraging them to improve in areas they may traditionally find challenging. Endowing a student with confidence in themselves through patience and support is the best way not only to improve academic performance, but also transform them into lifelong learners. I try to share not only my passion for knowledge with students, but also my love of sports (football, baseball, and softball), action films, and global affairs. Seeing students not only improve academically but also show improved confidence and happiness is the most rewarding part of my job.

I am currently a sophomore at NYU studying English and Journalism. However, I can help with almost any subject, including math and science, as I took advanced-level courses and 13 AP tests in high school. I have years of experience tutoring students of all ages, from elementary school through high school. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the violin, reading, and writing. I live in New York City during the academic year (September - May) and would be happy to tutor in-person (depending on the travel distance) then. Of course, if you/your child is more comfortable with online tutoring, I can tutor online year-round. Thanks for dropping by, and I hope to work with you/your child soon!

MS The Juilliard School • BA La Sierra University
1+ Years Tutoring

I am currently a doctoral student at the University of Southern California, and I completed earlier degrees at the Juilliard School in New York and at La Sierra University in Riverside, CA. At La Sierra as an undergrad, I received dual degrees with honors in violin and mathematics, both of which have led me to teaching opportunities. In tutoring either field, I enjoy the constant adaptation of finding an approach suited to each student that will help them achieve their goals. Both mathematics and music are often considered to be innate talents, but being able to assist students of any background in gaining proficiency is an exciting opportunity for me and a fulfilling one when it happens. Beyond mathematics, I also welcome tutoring opportunities in Chemistry and especially Physics, with it's mathematical foundation.

Frequently Asked Questions

The SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) is a standardized test used for admission to independent and private middle and high schools. Many students in Murrieta take the SSAT to apply to selective private schools in Southern California and beyond. The test measures verbal reasoning, math, and reading comprehension skills that independent schools use to evaluate applicants alongside grades and essays.

SSAT scores range from 500 to 800, with the average score around 650. What constitutes a "good" score depends on which schools you're targeting—competitive independent schools typically look for scores in the 700+ range, though some admit students with lower scores. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who can help you understand your target schools' score ranges and create a study plan to reach your goals.

Most students benefit from 2-4 months of focused preparation, though this varies based on starting point and target score. Students who work with a tutor typically see faster progress because personalized instruction targets their specific weak areas rather than generic test prep. Your tutor can assess your baseline and create a customized timeline based on your goals and the schools you're applying to.

The verbal reasoning section challenges many students because it requires strong vocabulary and analogy skills that can't be crammed the night before. The math section trips up students who haven't mastered foundational concepts or struggle with pacing under time pressure. Reading comprehension requires both speed and comprehension, and the essay tests writing clarity and organization. Expert tutors identify which section is your biggest challenge and use targeted strategies—like vocabulary building, problem-solving techniques, and timed practice—to build confidence and improve scores.

Practice tests are essential—they help you understand the test format, identify weak areas, and build stamina for the full exam. Taking full-length practice tests under timed conditions is especially valuable because it simulates test day and reveals pacing issues. Tutors use practice test results to pinpoint exactly where you're losing points, whether that's specific question types, timing problems, or knowledge gaps, then adjust your study plan accordingly.

Test anxiety is common, and expert tutors help manage it through repeated exposure to test conditions, proven breathing and mental techniques, and building confidence through incremental wins. Knowing you've practiced similar questions and understand test-taking strategies reduces anxiety significantly. Your tutor can also teach you how to pace yourself strategically, skip difficult questions and return to them, and stay focused under pressure—all practical skills that calm nerves on test day.

Look for tutors with proven SSAT expertise, a track record of score improvement, and the ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt to your learning style. The best SSAT tutors understand not just the content but test-taking strategy—they know which questions to prioritize, how to manage time across sections, and how to build confidence. Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors in Murrieta who specialize in SSAT prep and can customize their approach to your specific needs and target schools.

Your first session typically includes a diagnostic assessment to understand your baseline, identify your strongest and weakest areas, and learn about your target schools and goals. Your tutor will review your learning style, discuss your timeline, and outline a personalized study plan with specific focus areas and milestones. This foundation ensures every session after that is strategically designed to move you toward your score goal.
