This course requires students to read a variety of genres, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama; to write a variety of compositions, including planning, drafting, editing, and revising based on feedback from their teacher and their peers; and to engage in listening and speaking while building academic vocabulary. Through text-dependent reading and evidence-based writing and discussion, students will master grade level ELAR standards. Standards are taught at greater levels of rigor so that they are prepared to master the challenging reading and writing assignments in later Advanced Placement courses.

It requires a high degree of commitment to rigorous academic work in order to meet college standards. Students learn grammar, usage, vocabulary, and style analysis in preparation for the AP Language and Composition Exam. The course engages students in becoming skilled readers of prose written in a variety of rhetorical contexts, and in becoming skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes. Students are strongly encouraged to take the AP Exam.

It engages students in both wide and careful reading of imaginative literature. Writing assignments focus on the critical analysis of literature and include expository, analytical, and argumentative essays. Students are strongly encouraged to take the AP Exam.

Intensive study of and practice in writing processes, from invention and researching to drafting, revising, and editing, both individually and collaboratively. Emphasis on effective rhetorical choices, including audience, purpose, arrangement, and style. Focus on writing the academic essay as a vehicle for learning, communicating, and critical analysis.

Intensive study of and practice in the strategies and techniques for developing research-based expository and persuasive texts. Emphasis on effective and ethical rhetorical inquiry, including primary and secondary research methods; critical reading of verbal, visual, and multimedia texts; systematic evaluation, synthesis, and documentation of information sources; and critical thinking about evidence and conclusions.

In this course, students identify, analyze, develop, and evaluate communication skills needed for professional and social success in interpersonal situations, group interactions, and personal and professional presentations.

Students enrolled in Geometry I Honors will learn all Geometry standards, but at a higher level of rigor. The intent is to ensure students are adequately prepared for Algebra II Honors and Precalculus Honors.

Students enrolled in Algebra II Honors will learn all Algebra II standards, but at a higher level of rigor. The intent is to ensure students are adequately prepared for Precalculus Honors as well as AP and IB mathematics courses.

Students enrolled in Precalculus Honors will learn all Precalculus standards, but at a higher level of rigor. The intent is to ensure students are adequately prepared for collegiate level and AP mathematics courses.

AP Calculus AB is an introductory college-level calculus course. Students cultivate their understanding of differential and integral calculus through engaging with real-world problems represented graphically, numerically, analytically, and verbally and using definitions and theorems to build arguments and justify conclusions as they explore concepts like change, limits, and the analysis of functions.

AP Statistics is an introductory college-level statistics course that introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students cultivate their understanding of statistics using technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing as they explore concepts like variation and distribution; patterns and uncertainty; and data-based predictions, decisions, and conclusions.
