The American Political System: Process andPower Honors course consists of the followingcontent area strands: American History,Geography, Civics and Government. Theprimary content for the course pertains to thestudy of the political system in America and thedynamics of political issues. Content shouldinclude, but is not limited to, the nature ofpolitical behavior, power acquisition,maintenance, and extension, classical andmodernpoliticaltheorists, comparison ofpoliticalsystems, evolution of democraticpoliticalsystems,functions of the threebranches of government at the local, state andnational levels, Florida government, includingthe Florida Constitution, municipal and countygovernment, constitutional framework,federalism, and separation of power, includingstudy of the Declaration of Independence, theU.S. Constitution, and the Federalist Papers,evolving role of political parties and interestgroups in determining government policy,political decision-making process, the role ofwomen and diverse cultural groups in thedevelopment of our political system, and careeropportunities available in the governmentsystem.
