Year/Semester The Developing Guitar course builds on the skills introduced in Novice Guitar 6 or 7, offering students an opportunity to expand their guitar playing techniques and deepen their musical understanding. Students will explore more complex chord progressions, fingerpicking patterns, and scales, while continuing to develop their ability to read standard notation, tablature, and chord charts. The course introduces improvisation and basic song writing techniques, encouraging creativity and self-expression. Students will explore a broader range of genres, from folk and rock to jazz and blues, connecting these styles to historical and cultural contexts. Group performance remains a central focus, with students working together to perform as part of a guitar ensemble, fostering collaboration and teamwork. By the end of the course, students will have improved technical skills, a deeper understanding of music theory, and an increased ability to analyze and perform diverse musical styles. This course is only available at certain middle schools.
