This course examines the origins, structure, and functions of America’s legal system, focusing on the goals of justice, juvenile justice, our rights to privacy and free speech, and on ways we can improve historic issues of justice within our legal system. Student involvement includes the use of case studies, role-plays, debates/discussions, and mock trials. *This course is not part of the required SS course sequence in grades 9-11 towards graduation, but may be taken for Social Studies credit recovery or as an elective (may not replace Civics credit).

Prerequisites: None; higher level discussion and speaking required
