Southridge High School – American Sign Language II
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
Second-year students will further develop skills using total immersion language learning in the interpersonal (signing expressively/receptive), interpretive (glossing/receptive), and presentational (signing/glossing/speaking) communication modes. Second-year students expand their knowledge of the language, culture, vocabulary, and grammar they began in the first year. Students will practice expressing themselves in other time frames, such as past and near future tenses. Self-expression is limited to high-frequency topics and ideas. English may be used to moderate cultural and language differences between Spoken languages and Visual Languages to allow for L2 learners to connect concepts and ideas in both languages. Successful completion of this course helps fulfill the second language requirement for admission to state colleges and universities in Oregon.
