ASL IV is an intermediate/advanced course taught in the target language. Students will further deepen skills via total immersion language learning in the interpersonal (signing expressively/receptive), interpretive (glossing/receptive), and presentational (signing/glossing/speaking) communication modes. This course prepares the student to communicate competently in the skill areas of grammar and vocabulary, listening to interpret messages to ASL, signing, reading in order to sign the read text, writing gloss, and cultural competence. Students sign and gloss on topics such as Deaf achievements, Deaf in other countries, Deaf art, History, Science, and Technology supporting D/deaf success. The target language is used exclusively in class, and students enjoy practicing with authentic texts, native speakers, video, music, art, and contemporary culture. ASL IV students will begin expanding their real-life interactions with deaf people through technology (YouTube videos of deaf people signing, etc.) and Guest Speakers (virtual or in-person). Successful completion of this course helps fulfill the second language requirement for admission to state colleges and universities in Oregon and fulfills Dual Credit College Requirements. * * * ## Off-Campus District Course Options ### Automotive Technology
