(C4741D/C4742D) IB Biology SL I in Spanish (Dual Language) Standard Level IB Biology I is an in-depth and rigorous study of biological concepts taught in Spanish. Topics studied include biochemistry, cytology, ecology, and plant physiology. Laboratory activities will be inquiry-based and train students in the design and analysis of scientific experiments. This course satisfies the 1st year of the 2-year IB Biology Standard Level course of study. It is expected that students who enroll in IB Biology I will also enroll in IB Biology II. (C4751D/C4752D) IB Biology SL II in Spanish (Dual Language) (will be offered the 2026-2027 school year) IB Biology courses prepare students to take the International Baccalaureate Biology exams. In keeping with the general aim of IB Experimental Sciences courses, IB Biology promotes understanding of the facts, principles, and concepts underlying the biological field; critical analysis, evaluation, and generation of scientific information and hypotheses; improved ability to communicate scientific ideas; and an awareness of the impact of biology and scientific advances in biology upon both society and issues of ethical, philosophical, and political importance. Course content varies but includes the study of statistical analysis, cells, the chemistry of life, genetics, ecology and evolution, and human health and physiology, nucleic acids, metabolism, plant biology, genetics, and animal physiology. Laboratory experimentation is an essential component of these courses. This course is taught in Spanish.
