South Carroll High – Structure and Functions of the Human Body

Students in this course study the structure and functions of the human body, including cellular biology and histology. Systematic study involves homeostatic mechanisms of the body systems and special senses. Students will investigate the body’s responses to the external environment, maintenance of homeostasis, electrical interactions, transport systems, and energy processes. Students will conduct laboratory investigations and field work, use scientific methods during investigations to solve problems and make informed decisions. Students will learn medical terminology related to body systems.
Prerequisites: Foundations of Medicine and Health Science must be completed or taken concurrently. This course is part of a 4 - 6 credit completer program. Students in the transcripted course take a college-level exam at the end of the course.
