Art I is open to all high school students interested in taking art for the first time. Art I is the first course in a sequence of art offerings. This course introduces the students to studio art, art criticism, aesthetics, and art historical and social context. Students will respond to elegant problems concerning social issues, environmental, and multi-cultural, as they express themselves through artistic voice. A review of the art elements and principles of design is the starting point of this course. Studio experiences will be explored through units of study emphasizing creative expression and visual culture. Students may be required to purchase sketchbooks.
