Roosevelt High School – Concert Band: Beginning
Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester
In this year-long course, students with little to no prior experience playing a musical instrument embark on a fulfilling journey of musical discovery through ensemble performance in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students are introduced to a variety of wind and percussion instruments commonly found in concert bands, including but not limited to flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. Students learn instrument care and maintenance, note reading and musical fundamentals, and individual and ensemble playing techniques. Students perform at concerts and community events. Opportunities for differentiation and extension include performance as a soloist and/or in small ensembles. By the end of the course, students gain a strong foundation in instrumental music and confidence in their ability to play their chosen instrument. They experience the joy of making music as part of a concert band ensemble and feel confident to join a more advanced-level band.
