Publications 5-6 is a rigorous and leadership-focused course for experienced journalism students that have completed Publications 1-2 & 3-4 and who are ready to take on editorial and managerial roles in producing the school’s online and printed newspaper, Voices of Roosevelt. This class offers the opportunity to refine advanced journalistic skills, lead a team, and explore innovative approaches to storytelling and media production. Students in this course will: Serve as editors, senior reporters, or creative leads, overseeing the publication process Produce high-quality, in-depth news articles, investigative reports, and multimedia stories Lead and mentor peers, facilitating collaboration and ensuring deadlines are met Manage content planning, editorial decision-making, and publication design Analyze trends in journalism and experiment with new media platforms This course emphasizes leadership, critical thinking, and innovation as students work to maintain the quality, ethics, and integrity of the school’s newspaper. Publications 5-6 prepares students for real-world media experiences while providing an outlet to share impactful stories and amplify diverse voices within the school community.
