Roosevelt High School – Instrumental Music: Advanced Guitar

Students in this one-year course build upon the foundational skills acquired in the Beginning Guitar course through an immersive and challenging experience in advanced guitar techniques and performance. Designed for experienced guitarists seeking to refine their skills and elevate their musicianship, this course provides a rigorous yet supportive environment for artistic growth and development. Students work toward technique mastery through advanced exercises aimed at improving speed, accuracy, and expressiveness. Through guided instruction and practice, students explore high-level concepts such as fingerstyle, extended chords/inversions, voice leading, composition, improvisation, and stylistic interpretations around jazz, blues, rock, and other genres to develop their guitar performance fluency and creative expression. By the end of the course, students achieve a high level of proficiency in guitar performance and are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to empower students to reach their full potential as guitarists and musicians. Performances may be required.
Prerequisites: Beginning Guitar or instructor approval. Can be repeated for credit. Grades: 9, 10, 11, 12
