Roosevelt High School – Ceramics: Beginning 1-2

Students are exposed to both wheel throwing and hand-built techniques (slab, slab cylinder, pinch, coil, and drape construction). They become familiar with both safety and best practice protocols in the ceramics lab. Students learn to throw basic forms such as bowls and cylinders. They make various hand-built pieces which may include mugs, geometric and organic forms, and other functional and non-functional pieces. Students learn to apply underglazes and overglazes and various decorative firing techniques.
