Legal Systems: Civics introduces students to the foundations, structures, and functions of American law and government while emphasizing civic responsibility and participation. Through the study of civil, criminal, and constitutional law, students develop an understanding of how the legal system protects individual rights, balances powers, and shapes public policy. The course blends historical analysis, legal reasoning, and contemporary issues to help students explore the role of law in maintaining justice, order, and democratic values. Students engage with landmark court cases, current events, and civic institutions to evaluate how citizens influence and are affected by laws at the local, state, tribal, and federal levels. Learning experiences include case studies, debates, guest speakers from the legal field, and opportunities for civic engagement through observation of court proceedings or community forums.<br>This course will be an online hybrid course. Students will <br>meet in the classroom and in an online environment. Access <br>to a computer and the internet either at home or in the <br>school is required.
