Welcome to 6th grade Language Arts! During the school year, this course will target student growth in areas of reading, writing, and discussion. Our goal is to create an environment that encourages the students to challenge themselves in their academic pursuits. We are raising our expectations of the students to lead them on a path toward Advanced Placement courses and college. Overall, the goal of myself and this course is to increase literacy and writing skills among the students, granting them opportunities, and leading them on a path that expands horizons on their academic journey.

Welcome to 8th grade Language Arts. This year, students can expect to dive into readings and excerpts, learning to critically processing these readings they come across, as well as sharpening their writing skills through a diverse array of activities and discussions. Ultimately, students will be able to forward their academic pursuits in ELA and challenge themselves to meet the high expectations set by themselves and their academic community, by way of thinking critically and presenting their ideas both verbally and on paper. I hope to foster a positive, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that the students can both learn in and enjoy!

This course builds on the foundational skills learned in 9th grade and focuses on what 9th graders should know and be able to do by the end of the year. Our goal is to deepen students' understanding of literature, language, and the world around them through reading, writing, and discussion. Students will engage with a variety of texts- including classic and contemporary literature, nonfiction essays, and speeches- to explore complex themes, refine their analytical thinking, and strengthen their communication skills. They will continue developing their ability to express ideas clearly and effectively in both writing and speaking. Throughout the year, students will revisit and build upon key skills from earlier grades while progressing toward more advanced reading comprehension, critical thinking, and written analysis. These skills are essential for success in upper-level courses and beyond.

The purpose of this course is to provide grade 12 students with an integrated instruction of language arts in: reading, writing, speaking, and listening for college and career preparation and readiness, through the use of complex texts.
