Phoenix Military Academy High SchoolSports & Politics

Mar 2026 · 2nd Semester

The students enrolled in this course will study the ways in which sports and politics intersect. In this class, we will evaluate case studies to examine particular episodes of politicized sports across several key themes. In the course of our inquiries, we will explore the following questions: How do we construct a sense of self and identity based on our attachment to sports? How do sports contribute to cultural reproduction and shared history? How have sports been a site for debate over and movement toward racial liberation and gender justice? How have sports acted as a place for resistance to the status quo? How have sports reflected the power structure of society?
