Chinese I Advanced is an expansion of the essentials of Chinese I. Students build a basic foundation of Chinese language and culture. Chinese I emphasizes development of the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. The class also stresses cultural awareness and appreciation of the Chinese-speaking world as well as an awareness of the Chinese influence on the language and customs of North America. Chinese I Advanced is a first-year Chinese course; students do not need prior knowledge of Chinese to enroll in this course. The focus of this class is developing Novice-High proficiency. This course is designed to prepare students for the AP/IB Chinese SL course and may require extra hours of study per week.
